Shared Folder Plan FAQ
AS A SD Sync SUBSCRIBER (INDIVIDUAL OR BUSINESS ACCOUNT), CAN I SHARE FOLDERS WITH OTHERS EVEN THOUGH SD Sync DOES NOT OFFER A ‘FOREVER’ FREE 5GB ACCOUNT?
Yes. Recipients of a shared folder who do not have a SD Sync account can sign up for a Shared Folder Plan.
WHAT IS THE SHARED FOLDER PLAN? IS IT FREE?
When a SD Sync subscriber shares a folder privately with others who do not have a SD Sync account, those recipients are guided through a simple flow where they can sign up for SD Sync’s Shared Folder Plan.
The Shared Folder Plan is completely free. With the Shared Folder Plan, users can access folders shared with them via the SD Sync Desktop, Mobile, and Web applications. For shared folders where the owner has enabled Add-Edit permissions, users can upload and edit files in these folders as well as sync these folders to their own computers to enable real-time collaboration. To maintain access to the Shared Folder Plan, we request that users log in their account once every 90 days.
Users can also sync a shared folder to their computer by installing the SD Sync application on their desktop.
CAN I BACK UP MY OWN FOLDERS WITH A SHARED FOLDER PLAN?
With the Shared Folder Access account, you cannot back up your own folders. To back up all of your important folders and mobile photos and videos, Shared Folder Access account holders must upgrade to a paid plan.
WHOSE STORAGE LIMIT IS AFFECTED BY SHARED FOLDERS?
The storage used in a shared folder counts only towards the folder owner’s SD Sync account. That means recipients of shared folders can join shared folders without using up their own storage limit in SD Sync.
DO YOU STORE MULTIPLE VERSIONS OF A FILE?
Yes, SD Sync automatically stores past versions of every file. You have access to the current file, plus the last 5 versions of the file. This is useful when collaborating with others – if someone makes a mistake, it’s very easy to revert to a previous version of a file.
